Theodore Josephs

Postdoctoral Fellow

Theodore Josephs is a microbiologist and bioinformatician from the United Kingdom who is especially interested in understanding phage ecology and phage-host interactions. His previous research focused on leveraging phage ecology to inform phage therapy, identifying those key takeover proteins important for phage success. He holds a PhD in Genetics from the University of Leicester at the Becky Mayer Centre for Phage Research, an MSc in Microbiology and Infection from the University of Birmingham, and a BSc in Biology from the University of Derby.

Theodore joined the Gregory lab in January 2026 as a Postdoctoral Researcher. His main project is working on developing a new machine learning model to improve in silico phage-host predictions. Alongside this, he will also investigate how human eukaryotic viruses influence mechanisms underlying spontaneous preterm birth. When away from the lab, he enjoys hiking, eating great food, and cheering on his favourite sports teams.
