Andre Ontal

Andre is an undergraduate student at the University of Calgary, majoring in Biological Sciences with a concentration in genetics and evolution. His initial introduction to research involved working in a plant biology lab, where he spent two years focused on enhancing the resistance of key agricultural crops to various environmental stressors. Looking to pursue a deeper understanding of bioinformatics, Andre transitioned to the Gregory lab in September 2025 where his research now focuses on the viral biogeography of the human lymphoid organs. Outside of the lab, Andre spends most of his time hanging out with his three dogs, reading books, as well as working as a math tutor.
